production

the quintessential process to creating your song.

songwriting

crafting the lyrics and melody of a piece of music. lyricists can even work independently from songwriters.

songwriting is usually done by the artist or band, often with help from their producer.

in some cases, lyrics are written to an already written beat/song.

arrangement

composing the chord progression under the main melody, choosing which instruments will be used, and locking down the overall structure of the song (i.e. where the verses, choruses, bridge, and instrumental breaks will go).

most of the arranging process is handled during the songwriting phase and is often done by the producer, sometimes with help and feedback from the artist, the songwriter, or a composer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring my own music?

Yes, you will need to bring your own music to record.

If you need us to download any files please email us files/links before the session begins. We don’t want to waste your time downloading files during your session.

What do I need to bring the day of my session?

You will need to bring a storage device to save you music files, the music that will be used for recording (emailing files/links is acceptable as well.)

If you don’t have a storage device, we can save your files on site, but there will be an additional charge of $2 per track

Can I record more than one song during the session?

Yes, you may record as many songs as time permits. Just remember to save some time for comping.

What is Comping?

Comping is a process where you use the best parts of multiple takes and piece them together to make one ‘perfect take’.

Being the imperfect beings that we are, capturing a ‘perfect take’ in one go is not always possible.

Audio engineers remedy this by recording multiple takes, compile the best parts to make a single performance.

What is Production?

Production is a very broad term in the music world, but in this case it means composing/writing music.

We will make an instrumental/beat for you, in the genre of your choosing, help you out with song structure, and even help you make creative decisions.

What is Mixing?

Mixing marks the start of post-production, where an engineer carves and balances the separate tracks in a session to sound good when played together.

With tools like EQ, compression, panning, reverb, and pitch correction at their disposal, mix engineers reduce clashes between instruments, tighten grooves, and emphasize important song elements.

What is Mastering?

The goal of mastering is to ensure that your audio will sound the best it can on all platforms and to be properly formatted for its intended medium (streaming, CD, vinyl, tape.)

Music has never been consumed on more formats and devices than today. Even if you are recording and mixing in a million dollar studio, or recording in less than ideal conditions, you still need the final quality check of mastering. This ensures that your sound will be heard the way you intended it to be.

A good mastering job makes an album consistent and balanced across all tracks. Without mastering, individual tracks can sound disjointed in relation to each other.
